Clocks
Why do we offer clock services?
Mechanical clocks are things of beauty, engineering, and craft.
They can also be expensive items to buy and are often hugely valuable for sentimental reasons. They are also expensive to keep working and when they go wrong, prohibitively costly to repair.
Too often we see treasured clocks in people’s houses gathering dust with owners who are resigned to never seeing them working again.
Daedalus has been cleaning, mending, and restoring all kinds of mechanical clocks for over 25 years.
Our passion is to enable people to maintain their precious timepieces rather than see them abandoned because its too expensive or difficult to find someone to repair them.
How do we work?
Daedalus Crafts are a team of self-taught repairers and restorers with over 50 clocks to our name.
We will evaluate a clock condition in an open manner, in your own home or via collection and return. We charge a minimal fee for this service – a maximum of an hours time and any reasonable travel or transportation costs – agreed before we even start.
If we’re not confident we can fix your clock, we won’t start and won’t charge you any more money but will make recommendations and provide advice about how to commission a trained horologist to complete the repair.
If we’re confident we can fix your clock, we’ll itemise everything thats going to be done and the time it will take. We outline all of that on a quotation with parts and time at an hourly rate.
The oldest clock in our archive was dated around 1690 – and the most recent a quartz movement replacement on a much loved clock from 2010.
