My Story

Adrian struggled to decide between music and engineering as a career whilst at school. Accompanying choirs and school productions on the piano, as well as being relief organist at surrounding churches started at the age of 14 and might have seemed the logical career choice. However, a love for all things practical, and an innate problem solving ability resulted in an Electrical Engineer degree and the start of a long career in engineering.

Adrian has worked as a specialist marine engineer, high voltage engineer, control systems engineer and safety engineer. Progression through project and programme management in a large multinational company broadened experiences, and led to more and more senior global roles in business transformation, strategy, and consulting. In more recent years, Adrian moved to a not-for-profit business with the aim of bringing his varied corporate skills to a smaller organisation with slightly less commercially focused outcomes.

Throughout all of this time, Adrian’s love of music and association with it never waned. He expanded his instrumental breadth to include trumpet, piano accordian, bass guitar, Irish whistle, and in more recent times the cello. He has accompanied for many years and derives huge pleasure from it.

 

 

It would be fair to say that the engineering bug has never left Adrian. His ingenuity, problem solving, and love of all things practical, instilled by his father from an early age, has led to Adrian developing multiple practical skills and honing them to a high level.

So why the change to running Daedalus Crafts?

Adrian has suffered from heart challenges for over 15 years, having open heart surgery for a valve failure 13 years ago and having slowly deteriorating health until 2023.

In 2023, he was lucky enough to be seen by the team at the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford who subsequently enabled Adrian to get back to a level of fitness and health that he probably has never had before.

An opportunity arose to try something different, driven by a realisation that several things drive Adrian’s passion. Helping people, delivering things, and finding fulfilment in others’ success and enjoyment.

There is another important thing though. The sudden freedom of fitness after 15 years of poor health drives an ambition in Adrian to not sit at a desk for the rest of his working life. Some desk time is fine – but not all the time.
